4th LLJ Partner Assembly held at Imperial College London

The 4th LLJ Partner Meeting was held at Imperial College in South Kensington, London, 26-27 November. Partner Assembly meetings are held regularly to provide a communication platform for all partners in the project to be informed of work going on across the project. Operational management is provided by the Technical Management Committee (TMC) comprising work package leaders which meets by telephone conferencing several times between PAs.

Aside from reporting on progress, a key topic of the PA has been Data Management and the matter of Open Access to data. The PA also provided a platform for young researchers in the project to speak about their research.

LLJ in focus! Rebecca Taylor MEP visits the LLJ team at Leeds.

Rebecca Taylor who is a MEP representing the region that includes Leeds paid a visit 27 September. Aside from her regional interest, Rebecca Taylor has a personal interest in the topic as she is active as a reviewer of EU legislation on medical devices.

Commenting after the visit, Rebecca said “It was great to be able to see for myself how EU funding is making a real difference on the ground. This is vital research bringing real benefits, both for the individuals who get better quality joint replacements, but also for the region, which gets vital investment in high skill jobs”

Rebecca met Professor Anne Neville and the team from the LifeLongJoints project at the University of Leeds who showed her around the lab facilities and explained the value of a European collaboration in this field.

LLJ is a very good example of a Framework 7 project that also points the way to handling the focus on innovation foreseen by Horizon 2020. Recently Monica Schofield has been using the project as a case study for training purposes at the Nordic University Administrators (NUAS) conference in Kuopio Finland and at the Nordic Science Conference in Luleå Sweden.
