LLJ wraps up in Lisbon

The last week of the project grant period is a busy week for the project in Lisbon. Project Members gathered here to hold a special workshop at the 15th International Symposium on Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering (CMBBE).

On Sunday 25 March the final Partner Assembly was held. Presentations were given by researchers on key results of the projects. The final deliverables were discussed and signed off followed by a session looking ahead at possible future projects on topics proposed from the LLJ work. Many participants are old hands at EU projects and everyone was in agreement that LLJ had been a particularly harmonious project with exceptionally good working relations between partners.

LLJ at EuroNanoForum 2017

LLJ is exhibiting alongside a few other nanotechnology projects on a stand organised by the Nano Industries Association at this year’s EuroNanoForum held in Valetta, Malta 21-23 June. Around 1000 delegates have gathered to gain a snap shot of not only what projects are being supported by the Framework Programme but also measures being taken to support innovation.

On the exhibition stand itself, the NIA organised two very interesting presentations relating to regulation development for nano-technologies embedded in products which generate some thoughtful discussion. Guillaume Flament, working for NIA based in Paris gave an overview of the current regulatory framework, followed by Anthony Bochon a lawyer specialising in nano-technology compliance with Squire Patton Boggs, who discussed the legal position that companies need to take account of. This generated quite a bit of discussion over how to ensure good management of risks while not discouraging innovation.

LLJ is an example of a development that can shine positive benefits of nano-technologies, but as with all new medical device developments has now to take into account a more stringent compliance regime following the introduction of the new Medical Devices Regulation which takes effect from 2020.

Industrial Technologies 2014

LLJ STand Athens

LifeLongJoints was present at the Industrial Technologies 2014 conference in Athens from 9-11 April 2014.

The Industrial Technologies 2014 conference integrates nanotechnology, biotechnology, advanced materials and new production technologies. The event offers opportunities for developing valuable research and industry collaborations, and showcases cutting-edge research, latest innovations and rising companies from all around Europe.

The main topics include:

  • European and global developments in the high-tech arena,
  • Re-industrialisation and regional development in Europe,
  • Technological and entrepreneurial opportunities especially for the Balkan and Mediterranean states, and
  • Opportunities in Horizon 2020 in the field of enabling technologies.

The event takes place during the Greek Presidency of the European Council and has received funding from European Union Seventh Framework Programme.
